Naturally Native
Posted: Jun 25, 2010
While working on their Breathe Journey, Milford Cadettes from Troops 38304, 38318 & 38358 joined forces with members of the Milford Gardening Club to revitalize the garden in front of the Milford Public Library by replanting with plants native to our small city.
Kathy Kobishyn, Vice President of the Milford Gardening Club, and her colleagues came to one of our meetings and talked with the girls about the garden plan and the benefits of “going native”. The girls went on to research native plants which they highlighted in a power point presentation. They also created a display for the library to share with the community. The project culminated with the planting of the new garden.
While discovering, connecting and taking action, the girls not only received valuable information on their journey, but were able to earn the Plant Life IP as well as the Native Plants Patch for Girl Scouts which is offered through the National Garden Clubs.
