1st documented Christmass Tree
Posted: Nov 18, 2008
Girl Scout Cadette Troops 556 and 567 of
Windsor Locks had a Dedication Ceremony to
mark the end of their year-long project to
recognize New Englandís First Documented
Christmas Tree. Project accomplishments
included planting a pine tree donated by
Russo Landscaping, installing a recycled
bench funded by the Windsor Locks
conservation commission, and placing a
marker on the Noden Reed property,
where in 1777 the first spruce tree was
located. At the Octoberfest in Windsor
Locks they hosted a table for visitors
to make environmental-friendly holiday
ornaments to hang on the tree and passed
out donated gifts to the children who
attended the event. The Girl Scouts
will also be going to South School in
Windsor Locks to discuss the history of
the tree with the students.
