Days at Camp Pattagansett
Posted: Jan 7, 2006
I started attending Camp Pattagansett in 1986. I lived a mere 5-7 minute walk down the road from the camp. I attended as a camper from 1986 to 1994 and then became a Jr. Staff member by the name of Cherry. I was Jr. Staff for 3 years (due to my September birthday) and then as Staff from 1997-1999. That name stuck and I was known to the campers as Cherry from 1994-1999. I have fond memories as a camper, Jr. Staff, and Staff member. I met amazing girls my own age and then fabulous adults as a Staff member. From cook-outs, to hikes, to working with the Peter Pans, it all was awesome! I grew in self-confidence and self-esteem. Leadership skills were also developed as a result of being a Girl Scout. I remember leading campfire cook-outs and leading activities, like teaching American Sign Language with ease due to feeling good about myself and my abilities. Girl Scouts was, and still is, my outlet. I worked at Camp Laurel Resident Camp for 2 years after my time at Camp Pattagansett, but Pattagansett is where my best childhood memories will always be.
