Macy Memories, by Mary Hartman (member since 1928) Posted: May 5, 2006
My 77 years as a Girl Scout are so crammed with special times that it is difficult to select just one memory. However, the summer of 1942 always stands out. I was privileged to be a member of the Macy Staff that year, when there was a big meeting of all regional directors. Great Hall was charged with tremendous enthusiasm for Girl Scouts and power! In addition to national staff, there were many special people who inspired and led our program back then. They were Kit Hammett, Marie Gaudette, Agnes Leahy, Mary Sanders, and Oleda Schrotky, among others. Oleda gave special meaning to my Golden Eaglet Award having been the one to pin me at an unforgetable Girl Scout dinner. Great Hall at Macy has always been very special to me and the spirits of those remarkable people seem to dwell there forever.
