When I was 12 yrs old I went to Camp Francis in Kent:
It was the 1st time I had been away to camp; I had a real good time. Learned how to cook over a open fire,
our units had names like Craig Alpine which was the unit I was in: The head of the camp was a leader from MT by the name of Sappy: I never forgot that she slept in a home mande tepee that she brought with her from Mt.
Some of the activites we did was one night we had a gypsy camp fire which was a fire in a wheel barrell and our unt wen to all the other units singing. or one morning we slept inand had a treasure hunt breakfast which was finding small boxes of cereal on the trees;
But I think the thing that stood out most in my mind was the fact I was the second generation to go there; Back in the 30's my mother went there when she was a scout in Stamford; She was the same age I was 12 yrs old. We were talking about that one night and she was there in 1937 and Iwas there in 1967:
Our troop also was there in 1968 for a town wide girl scout round up.
I will never forget swimming in Lake Candlewood. It was the best 2 weeks I have ever spent
