Flat Juliette at the Pez Factory

Posted: Sep 25, 2012
Flat Juliette went to visit the U.S. Headquarters of Pez in Orange, CT. She found out that Pez started in Austria in 1927, that the German word “pfefferminz” (peppermint) was shortened to PEZ using the first, middle and last letters of the word, and that it was developed as a smoking cessation aid—the first dispenser was character-free and resembled a cigarette lighter! She also learned that there are 44 candies in the Pez logo, there are 14 flavors (orange is the top seller), and collectors are called Pezheads. This factory makes 12 million candy pieces each day—Juliette saw them working on the Christmas line getting ready to ship for the holidays.
