Girl Scouts of Connecticut, Naugatuck Valley Community College host successful Nuestra Voz Latina

April 5, 2012

Girl Scouts of Connecticut and co-sponsors Naugatuck Valley Community College and the Latina A.R.M.Y. hosted the 3rd annual Nuestra Voz Latina: A Leadership Conference, at the college campus on Saturday, March 31.

Approximately 62 girls attended with their mothers or another adult to participate in fun activities to learn about mental and physical health. Girls learned about money management and business ownership skills, participated in a dance class, learned about college with a campus tour, and about healthy snacks and lifestyle.

In addition, girls got to experience YO SOY LATINA!, a play that challenges a group of diverse Latina women to examine their identity and their connections in the contemporary American landscape. The play’s premise unites these women who come to share their individual anecdotes of living Latina in contemporary America. An abridged half-hour version was performed.
