June 18, 2012
Girl Scouts from around Connecticut hopped on a bus on Friday, June 8, and headed to Washington, D.C. for a historic gathering of Girl Scouts at the Nation’s Capitol Rock The Mall sing-a-long on Saturday, June 9.
Troops participating included Bethel, Chester, Windham, Milford, Simsbury, Plymouth, Oxford, Niantic, Terryville, Amston, Farmington, East Haven, and many others from across the state.
“It was a terrific opportunity to be a part of something so big and fantastic,” said Janet Ridenour, Senior Director of Program Services. “To see a quarter million of other Girl Scouts, all in one place, thrilled me and gave me such a tremendous sense of pride in our organization. I was delighted to be a part of the day.”
Performers included The Voice Finalist, Erin Willette, K12 I Want To Rock The Mall YouTube contest winner and Girl Scout Ambassador, Dana Marie from New Jersey, and American Idol finalist, Thia Megia. Traditional and new songs were sung by these artists along with strong audience participation, demonstrating the power of girl leadership during the 100th Anniversary of Girl Scouting.
