Twelve Girls from Connecticut to Experience First-hand the Democratic Process

Local delegates head off to Girl Scouts 51st National Convention

Hartford, CT - October 27, 2008 - As the country focuses its attention on the upcoming elections, Girl Scouts from across the country are traveling to Indianapolis, Indiana to cast their vote at Girl Scouts of the USA's 51st Convention.  Girl Scouts of Connecticut

will be represented by 37 National Delegates, twelve of which are girls between 14 and 17 years old.  For the girls, this will be the first time they will take part in parliamentary procedure on this level and have the opportunity to truly exercise their role as leaders in their organization.

Prior to the National Convention, girls will take part in a Girl Scout Leadership Institute, where they will participate in workshops covering a variety of topics important to girls - including everything from Online Security to Eating Disorders, Stress Management to Self-Esteem.  In addition, several national celebrities such as MTV's SuChin Pak and the Simmon's sisters, and Disney Radio's Keke Palmer - many of which are Girl Scouts - will be on-hand to hold workshops and entertain the girls.

Once the 51st National Convention begins, all the delegates from Girl Scouts of

Connecticut will join over 1800 delegates from around the country to take part in the leadership experience of voting on the direction of the organization.

This is the first time Girl Scouts of Connecticut has been represented at a National Convention, held every three years, as the Council was newly formed on October 1, 2007.
