Over 800 Volunteers Dedicate Their Service to

Girl Scouts of Connecticut on September 11, 2009

On September 11, 2009 in honor of the first National Day of Service and Remembrance, more than 800 volunteers took the time to help Girl Scouts of Connecticut better serve girls throughout the state. Through the United Way of Central and Northeastern Connecticut, volunteers from such companies as Northeast Utilities, ING, Cigna, HSB, UTC Power, and Alstom, donated their time and service to improve Girl Scouts of Connecticut facilities in their area. The dedicated volunteers worked with Girl Scouts of Connecticut staff on a variety of projects such as clearing a trail at a Girl Scout camp in Lebanon, painting the Girl Scout meeting area at a camp in Tolland, and even cleaning out a storage area in the Girl Scout Hartford Service Center.

The United Way's Day of Caring program is focused on giving back to the community and community service is also a large part of Girl Scouting. This past year, thousands of Girl Scouts across Connecticut worked on a variety of projects selflessly serving others. They are committed to helping others and to the betterment of their world.

On behalf of the 46,000 Girl Scouts across the state of Connecticut, Girl Scouts of Connecticut would like to thank all of the volunteers who took the time on September 11 to serve others. It is this kind of dedication and commitment to service on a daily basis by volunteers across the state that allows Girl Scouts of Connecticut to succeed in its mission to build girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place. They are helping to shape the leaders of tomorrow with their efforts today.
