Girl Scouts Hold Successful Fill the Truck Events Across the State

March 23, 2010

On Saturday, March 20, Girl Scouts of Connecticut held "Fill the Truck" events at five locations across the state. Nearly a thousand boxes of Girl Scout cookies were sold to send to service men and women around the world through Girl Scouts of Connecticut's Cookies for Heroes service project. Personnel from the National Guard were on hand at each location along with military vehicles to encourage the public to "Fill the Truck" with donated cookies for military troops at home and overseas.

"We are thrilled with how our Fill the Truck events went across the state," said Margaret Hansen Kaplan, Girl Scouts of Connecticut's COO. "It was truly inspiring to see our girls interact with the service men and women at each of the sites as they encouraged people to send everyone's favorite cookies to our military troops around the world."

Throughout the event people were also encouraged to write their own notes of appreciating to service personnel. The notes along with many others made by Girl Scouts across the state will be sent along with the cookies.

Girl Scouts of Connecticut's goal is to be able to send 100,000 boxes of Girl Scout cookies to service men and women around the world. They are currently at nearly 75,000 boxes and hope to reach their goal before the end of March when this year's Cookie Program ends. To purchase cookies or to donate boxes to military troops through Cookies for Heroes, log on to www.CookieVote.com. The website allows visitors to vote for their favorite cookie, write notes to service personnel, find out how to purchase cookies, and read notes of thanks from service men and women.
