Adrienne Farrar Houël
- Adrienne Farrar Houël is President and CEO of The Greater Bridgeport
Community Enterprises, Inc. (GBCE), known as The Green Team. GBCE is a
501c3 community development corporation that specializes in creating and
supporting green, community based businesses; in training and placement
of low and moderate income persons in green jobs; in researching trends
in green business development; and advocating for more green jobs in
the Bridgeport area and throughout the State of Connecticut.
Ms. Farrar Houël is a Bridgeport native with 28 years of international executive experience in France, Russia and Ireland in real estate development and marketing. Since 2002 she has returned to the U.S. and developed a career in non-profit housing and economic development. In her most recent capacity, Ms. Houël has designed, funded and operated workforce development training programs, conducted studies concerning affordable housing as well as funded and developed affordable housing projects, and created GBCE and its three areas of green businesses: Brownfields Revitalization, Energy Conservation, and Deconstruction, Reuse and Recycling. Ms. Farrar Houël's service to the community is extensive, both through local board and coalition memberships and in state-wide advocacy roles. She served as 2009 & 2010 Chair of Connecticut's Permanent Commission on the Status of Women, and is Trustee on the Board of the Connecticut Trust for Historical Preservation. Until September 2009, she served as Vice President of the Board of Directors of Community Capital Fund and Vice President of the Board of Girl Scouts of Connecticut. In June of 2009, Ms. Farrar Houël was named a Director of the Wholesome Wave Foundation of Bridgeport, CT and now serves as Vice-Chair/Secretary. She is also a founding board member of the Mary and Eliza Freeman Center for History and Community created last year. In 2010, Mayor Bill Finch named Ms. Farrar Houël to Bridgeport's newly created Energy Improvement District of which she is now Chair. In April of 2012, Governor Malloy named her to his Modernizing Recycling Working Group. |
