Camp Merrie-Wood offers a beautiful natural setting surrounded by great hiking trails and a small brook where girls can investigate the stream's natural habitat. Girls entering grades 1-8 can participate in one-week sessions that provide age-appropriate activities, such as arts and crafts, hikes, campfire building, leadership development, sports, games, and science experiments.  Leadership opportunities and special programs are available for older girls. Bus transportation is included. All girls welcomed-Girl Scouts and non-Girl Scouts alike.

Leadership Opportunities for Older Girls:

LEAD (Leadership, Education, Adventure, and Development) - For girls entering grades 8 - 12 who are ready to take on the leadership role of helping younger girls enjoy all the great experiences at day camp.  Participants will receive Program Aide Core Training and LEAD Training to ensure the knowledge, tools, and skills necessary to succeed as a LEAD.  LEADs assist Unit Leaders and Program Staff by helping involve campers in program.  Learn how to apply here.

Financial Assistance - Camperships are available on a limited basis.  Click here for the application.  The $20 deposit is required to process the camp registration; however, if your camper is not granted financial assistance, the deposit will be refunded.  If you have questions about the deposit fee, please call the Registration Department at (800) 922-2770.

Volunteer and Employment Opportunities - We are looking for your special skills, spirit, and appreciation of children.  Camp programs include swimming, hiking, campers, nature, sports, games, horseback riding, dramatics, singing, boating, cookouts, canoeing, and living in the outdoors.  Enjoy the fun and rewards of meeting and working with other adults and children in the outdoors.  Adults will receive training in outdoor skills, teamwork, health, and safety standards.  If you are interested in volunteering for summer camp, download your application packet here.   For a list of employment opportunities and an application, look in the Summer Camp section of the employment opportunities page.

Meet the Director
Amanda Rivard is a graduate of Keene State College in New Hampshire with a degree in Social Science and Social Studies Education.  She is currently is employed by the East Hartford Board of Education as a one-on-one paraprofessional for a young man with autism and coaches the step team.  Amanda is a third generation Girl Scout and has been involved in Girl Scouting for 17 years and counting.  She has attended Girl Scout camp, helped to plan town-wide camping events, and worked for Camp Horizons in South Windham, CT. Today she is a Daisy Troop Leader for the town of East Hartford and is pursuing her Master's degree at Saint Joseph College in Special Education.  This will be Amanda's second year as the Director of Merrie-Wood Day Camp.
