What Girl Scouts in Connecticut did with their cookie proceeds last year and what some are planning to do with this year's proceeds...

"Our Troop used our proceeds in many ways. We adopted two military troops overseas and sent them care packages, we planted a community garden at our school, we re-registered the whole Troop for this year, and the girls even got to go to Build-A-Bear for a year-end party.

This year we participated in the Election Day Cookie Booth and used some of our proceeds towards adopting a family for a Secret Santa program."

"My Troop used some of the money to cook a big dinner for a local homeless shelter. Then with another portion of the money, they went on an end-of-the-year trip to New York City to see West Side Story."

"Last year due to the economic situation, many of our parents became unemployed and are still unemployed. The girls were bridging from Brownies to Juniors so we used the cookie proceeds to purchase full uniforms including all of the patches and pins for their new year as Girl Scout Juniors. This alleviated a financial burden from their parents."

"We elected to donate cookies to the Veteran's hospital and the girls were happy they could make the donation and also made cards."

 "We are using our proceeds to go to Walmart and, in groups of 4-5 girls, we are going to pick a child angel off the Christmas tree and shop for that child. The girls will be learning to be caring and will also be learning about money as they do the calculations to be within budget."
