Edna M. Karanian, a natural gas industry professional since 1982, is Director of Yankee Gas System Operations of The Northeast Utilities System. In addition to day-to-day system operations Ms. Karanian has been leading strategy, supply planning & acquisition, portfolio management for Yankee since 2008.
Prior to Yankee Gas, Ms. Karanian was employed by Connecticut Natural Gas Corporation for 19 years where she became Vice President – Energy Services and Regulatory Affairs (1982-2001) where she served in several energy service roles (including Supply, Operations, Gas Control, Transportation, Rates, Planning and Regulatory Affairs) and was appointed the company’s first female officer. Ms. Karanian has also consulted on portfolio management and provided expert testimony on natural gas issues before the Connecticut Department of Utility Control. She has also presented testimony to the state legislature on capacity planning, gas procurement, rates, and deregulation related energy issues.
Edna has a B.A. in Economics from Eastern Connecticut State University and an M.S. in Management from The Lally School of Management & Technology at Rensselaer. She is a member of various professional energy associations. She has also served on the Advisory Board to the Blind - Manufacturing , Urban League Board of Greater Hartford, the Connecticut Energy Advisory Board, The Connecticut Resource Recovery Authority (Board member, Finance Committee and HR Committee) and is currently serving on the board of the Connecticut Power and Energy Society.
Ms. Karanian resides with her husband and their two children in Wethersfield, Connecticut.
