What issue did your Take Action project address?
The quality of life in nursing homes.

What was your Take Action Project? Who did you involve in your project?
My Take Action Project involved enhancing the seasons and holidays for the residents at Laurel Ridge Nursing Home in Ridgefield, Connecticut. The residents were involved in all of the activities and projects I developed and implemented at Laurel Ridge. I also involved my friends for my culminating project: A Spring Musical Concert.

What were the results? How did it affect the community?
The residents were very pleased to have young people helping them and keeping them company. It was also a very positive experience for me to get to know the residents and have an opportunity to work with them.

What did you learn from the experience?
I learned about how rewarding it can be to work and spend time with elderly people. I realized how important it is for senior citizens to be stimulated through interaction with younger people. I also learned that volunteering your time to a worthy cause can bring a person a lot of self satisfaction.
