What issue did your Take Action project address?
The issue it addressed was how not many people are partaking in physical activity.

What was your Take Action Project? Who did you involve in your project?
The project was to teach people different, fun and safe exercises that they can do at any time. The "fit" portion were bootcamp style and Zumba classes instructed by ourselves under the supervision of fitness professionals. The project also involved local produce vendors that demonstrated healthy and inexpensive snacks. Samples were given out. For the younger kids, a story-coloring book was handed out. We had a table set up demonstrating the 4 major memory systems along with activities to show how to keep your mind youthful and "fit".

What were the results? How did it affect the community?
The results were good. Members of the community who attended our event left with a positive feeling. Most people had never tried Zumba before and had an awesome time. They saw how simple the exercises were and how just spending a few minutes each day it makes you feel great overall.

What did you learn from the experience?
Coordinating an event takes time. Making sure vendors and fitness professionals are available the same day as the place you want to have your event at is time consuming. Sharing tips how easy and important it is to stay healthy, along with being active so that we all feel good and have fun doing it was a great experience and fun time!
