Summer Dayz - By The Sea
Connecticut has 332 miles of coast along the Long Island sound! Let’s discover the beauty, benefits, and bounty of being by the sea.
Summer Dayz is a Monday - Thursday virtual programming experience for girls and their families. Using Zoom, we’ll explore a theme in a variety of ways, & provide ideas for off-screen exploration. In addition to virtual sessions, you’ll also receive a digital packet of off-line activities, a badge connection sheet, and two of the themed patches. While our themes are widely varied, we’re working to tie them to our state, Girl Scout Badges, and women experts in the field.
Each day we’ll start the day with a quick Opening, where we’ll hear the weather, a fun fact, song or joke. We’ll help you prepare for the day by reviewing the day’s schedule and remind you what to have on hand.
The five activities offered during day will start at the specified time. Facilitators will engage girls in discussions, virtual activities. As much as possible, these will link back to the week’s theme, and things in our state. After approximately 30 minutes, the facilitator will encourage you to continue exploring the topic and ways to practice a new skill offline. You may also choose theme related activities from the “packet” emailed prior to the week’s start.
Badge sessions will be held each day. We’re working to connect badges to the theme. During this time, girls might participate in single or multilevel groups. While badges themselves will not be provided, you’ll receive a badge sheet with the badge(s) and steps covered during the week. Your registration includes two theme patches- one for your Girl Scout and one for her sibling/caregiver (or for when she losses one). For a small fee, additional patches will be available while supplies last.
What does it mean when we say, “$30 for One Household/Device per registration?”
We know that Girl Scouts often have siblings, and we encourage everyone to participate in the activities. Since all of our sessions will be done over Zoom, we ask that a household share one device, using only one Zoom space. If you feel that your children require separate devices/screens please register for each device you will need. Adults, while we encourage you to be aware of what your child is doing online, we ask that you do not log on as well using an “extra” space.
What will happen after I register? You will receive an emailed packet. It will contain:
- The link(s) used during the week. Please do not share this with anyone.
- A fuller schedule with activity descriptions
- Additional Themed activities, ideas for extending the theme off line, or recommendations of places to visit as a household/family.
What does our registration provide?
- Access for one device to the weekly virtual program – four days, five activity sessions per day.
- The emailed resource/supply list packet & badge connection sheet.
- Two weekly themed patches (Patches are on order and will be sent after the session)
Thank you Bushi Ban Marital Arts & Fitness for being with us two times a week!
Families this is what to expect: A High energy, fun filled program teaching the foundations of martial arts while emphasizing life skills and safety. Our high energy drills are designed to teach the basics of martial arts and improve fitness while building confidence and character. Throughout the training we concentrate on self-discipline, focus, self-control, self-confidence, and fitness while encouraging the student to bring out the best in themselves.
Note: The minimum number of registrations to run this Summer Dayz Week is 30, and the maximum number is 80. At times, we’ll utilize Zoom breakout groups to allow for smaller group interaction.
