The course introduces common mental health challenges for youth, reviews typical adolescent development, and teaches a 5-step action plan for how to help young people in both crisis and non-crisis situations. Topics covered include anxiety, depression, substance use, disorders in which psychosis may occur, disruptive behavior disorders (including AD/HD), and eating disorders. 

The course will teach you how to apply the MHFA Action Plan (ALGEE): 

Assess for risk of suicide or harm. 
Listen nonjudgmentally. 
Give reassurance and information. 
Encourage appropriate professional help. 
Encourage self-help and other support strategies.

This is a hybrid course. 

Learners must complete a 2 hour online course before attending the in person seminar. 

Certification for Youth Mental Health First Aid is valid for 3 years.

Attendance for the FULL (6.5 hours) in-person portion is required to earn your certification.

The in-person session will be held on Saturday, June 22nd from 10am-4:30pm (with a lunch break.)
