Meet a Professional Ballet Dancer, Colleen McKenzie, Now Appearing in The Nutcracker Suite

Daisies, Brownies and Juniors! Join us to meet a real live ballerina with the acclaimed Connecticut Ballet.  Colleen McKenzie-who appears in this season's The Nutcracker-- will share with you about the life of a professional dancer/artist and some fun facts about ballet, too.

Some of the questions Colleen will address include:

  • At what age do most dancers begin dancing?
  • Does a dancer have to go to college?
  • What skills are important for a dancer?
  • Are the ballet costumes fun to wear?
  • What is a dancer's typical day like?

Also, some fun facts including:

  • Ballet is over 500 years old!
  • In the beginning, women were not allowed to dance in the ballet
  • Professional ballet tutus can take 60-90 hours to make

Colleen will share stories from behind the stage lights. So, join us, Girl Scouts, and bring your questions, too.

Our "Meet ..." series introduces younger Girl Scouts to inspiring role models in an engaging and age-appropriate way. This program is offered to you at no additional cost and is included as part of your Girl Scout membership.
