This American Red Cross Lifeguard blended learning class requires 8 hours of pre-work; a pre-class skills test; and 20 hours of on-site practice and testing. Certification is valid for 2 years, and will include CPR for the Professional rescuer. It is strongly recommended that candidates have strong swimming skills, and are certified in first aid and CPR before taking this class. Participants in this class must be 18 years old as of June 17, 2024. Participants complete 8 hours on online pre-work for this blended learning class. Prework online link will be sent June 3, 2024 and must be completed prior to June 18, 2024. You will need to provide proof of completion of this work before the pre-skills swim test.

Participants must pass a skills test:

Swim 300 yards continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing. Candidates may swim using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both but swimming on the back or side is not allowed. Swim goggles may be used.

Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs and hands in armpits.

Complete the timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds.

Starting in the water, swim 20 yards. The face may be in or out of the water. Swim goggles are not allowed.

Surface dive, feet-first or head-first, to a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object.

Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point with both hands holding the object and keeping the face at or near the surface so they can get a breath. Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.

Candidates who complete the pretest will participate in 20 hours of in person instruction and testing on site. Please note that there are no refunds for this class for candidates who do not successfully complete any portion of this class, including the online portion and the pre-skills test.
