Step into the hidden world of vernal pools-temporary wetlands
bursting with springtime surprises! In this 90-minute hands-on nature
adventure, Girl Scouts will become wildlife detectives as they explore
these magical seasonal habitats. From squiggly tadpoles to jelly-like
egg masses, girls will observe real-life signs of amphibians and other
critters that depend on these pools to grow and thrive. Along the way,
we'll play nature games, practice observation skills, and learn why
vernal pools are so important to local ecosystems. Whether you're a
frog fan or just love mud puddles, this is the perfect springtime
outdoor adventure!
Participants will:
- Visit a
real vernal pool and look for signs of amphibians
- Learn about
the life cycle of frogs and salamanders
- Observe real eggs and
tadpoles (depending on season and availability)
- Discover why
vernal pools are essential to biodiversity
