Do you play an instrument or sing? Do you want to learn new musical skills in a supportive, inclusive, and pressure-free space? Then come join our Acoustic Music Jam Circles! This Jam Circle Life Skills series provides a musical hangout space for Girl Scouts (and caregivers!) to have fun and learn from one another. Participants can gain experience in leading a song or instrumental jam, solo improvisation, performing as core ensemble members, and learning to communicate and incorporate diverse musical ideas. This program is perfect for Girl Scout musicians, of all skill levels, who want to learn how to organize and participate effectively in musical performance spaces. A wide array of acoustic instruments are welcomed, including stringed instruments (acoustic guitar, ukulele, violin, banjo, mandolin etc.), woodwinds/ brass (ie. flutes, trombones), small percussion instruments (ie. drums, shakers, tambourines), portable keyboards, and the most important instrument of all- you! Sight reading or formal musical experience is never required.

Our Jam Circle Goals:

  • Join the Jam Circle: Be welcomed with open arms and learn how to help musicians of all abilities and styles feel welcomed, empowered, heard and engaged.
  • Know yourself and Your Instrument: As you jam with others, you will learn how rhythm, tone, pitch, key, and volume shape your unique contributions as a band member. Become more confident in band accompaniment and solo performance, in a variety of styles.
  • Harmonize and Create Harmony: Find and develop your style as you perform with us. Learn how to share and teach songs, and how to lead Jam Circles in and outside of Girl Scout programs; learn to communicate musically!

Girl Scouts and Caregivers are welcome to bring any instrument they wish, or to come as singers. Limited extra supplies such as strings, picks, tuners, rosin, etc. will be provided, along with knowledgeable instrument setup help. Scouts are encouraged to print out song lyrics, song books, or chord charts if desired. Girl Scouts attending must have a signed Annual Consent Form and Health History Form with them. Early registration closes on July 27, 2025, and the final deadline to register is August 20, 2025. Secure your spot and register today!
