Out and About (in-person)
Ready to take your Girl Scouts beyond the four-hour field trip?
Out and About is an essential in-person training for volunteers eager
to unlock the next level of outdoor adventures. In this engaging and
informative course, volunteers will gain the tools and knowledge
needed to confidently plan and lead simple outdoor experiences and
overnights with girls. Whether it's a hike through local trails, a
cozy night in a heated program center, or a unique overnight at a
museum or zoo, this training empowers you to guide participants
through safe, girl-led, and enriching adventures.
Key Activities
Learn how to plan safe and successful trips using GSUSA's
Safety Activity Checkpoints.
Discover the power of girl-led
progression in outdoor adventures.
Practice real-life skills
like meal prep, packing techniques, dishwashing, and latrine
etiquette.
Explore trip planning basics including hotel safety,
kaper charts, and hiking guidelines.
Gain confidence to lead
overnights in indoor settings with heat, water, and electricity.
💡 Badge Alignment: While this course is for adult
volunteers and does not directly support girl badge earning, the
skills you gain will directly enable your troop to complete adventures
tied to Outdoor badges!
Who Can Attend?
This course is designed for troop and group volunteers across
all program levels. It is especially valuable for those looking to
expand their outdoor program capabilities. Please note: This course is
for adults only and does not require girls to attend. All adults
attending must have a registration for this event and must comply with
all standards based on GSUSA and GSOFCT policies and procedures. No
tagalongs are permitted at this event; everyone attending must have a
registration for this event. In accordance with insurance policies, we
are not permitted to have any un-registered adults at this
event.

Additional Notes
📌 Please come prepared to participate in both classroom-style
learning and hands-on activities. Completion of this course is
required before leading girls on overnight trips in buildings with
