Charming Power with Nature in Mind, Journey Weekend
Learning about and caring for the outdoors helps us appreciate the world around us while learning valuable skills to become confident women. Tents and communal gear are provided by council. Each age level will have separate activities to help them complete the steps of the badges. Girl Scouts are responsible for bringing a sleeping bag and other personal items (council has extras if needed). A virtual, evening prep meeting will be held the week before the program - date and details will be sent via email confirmation. Troops or individuals will be responsible for completing their take action project after the weekend, but we will hold a brainstorming session to help with this during the weekend. All meals on Saturday and breakfast on Sunday will be provided in the dining hall. Troops will be assigned a cabin (or multiple cabins).
Earn charms as you explore how potential energy is turned into kinetic and electrical energy while keeping an eye toward nature.
Girl Scouts will have the opportunity to participate in hands on activities exploring:
Jet, solar, hydro, and wind energy by building energy producing devices
What kinetic energy is and how it is transformed into electrical energy by exploring simple circuits, magnetism, and making their own paper speakers
Build weather stations to learn how sun and water combine to create weather from which energy can be extracted
Learn how we impact nature in night-time, aquatic, and air environments
Take an energy survey of the camp with all their newfound knowledge and devices
Explore the night sky and leave no trace
