Ready to level up your outdoor skills? In this Beginner Navigation
program, Cadettes, Seniors, and Ambassadors will dive deeper into the
fundamentals of map and compass use. Girl Scouts will practice pacing,
bearings, and interpreting topographic maps through interactive
activities like creating contour maps from potatoes and solving
triangulation challenges. By the end, girls will have the confidence
to find their way on any adventure.
Key Activities

pace and use it to calculate distances Build a topographic

Badge
Alignment: Participation in this program supports steps of the Cadette
Trailblazing, First AId, and Night Owl badges, Senior Adventurer,
First Aid, and Traveler badges, and Ambassador Survival and First Aid
badges badges. Skills developed here strengthen outdoor leadership and
navigation abilities.
Who Can Attend? Open to Cadettes,
Seniors, and Ambassadors. Girls may attend with their troop or
individually. For GSOFCT events where adults are not required to stay,
Girl Scouts must bring their signed Annual Consent and Health History
forms at check in. If more than 3 members of your troop are
attending, adult supervision is required. All adults attending must
have a registration for this event and must comply with all standards
based on GSUSA and GSOFCT policies and procedures. No tagalongs
(siblings, unregistered adults) will be permitted to stay at this
event. Please review ratios for supervision for Girl Scout events
before registering for this event. Troop volunteers are encouraged to
check GSUSA Safety Activity checkpoints for activities to ensure Girl
Scouts are ready to participate.
