Summer Story Swap celebrates connection and generosity — finding a book, sharing a book, and sending stories out into the world so others can enjoy them too.
Summer Story Swap is a summer-long reading adventure designed to keep Girl Scouts learning, imagining, and connecting all season long! From June 15 through August 23, Girl Scouts can complete activities on their Summer Story Swap BINGO Board, participate in FREE virtual book clubs, visit Story Swap Stations across Connecticut, and discover new books throughout the summer.
Whether you love fantasy, graphic novels, audiobooks, mysteries, nonfiction, or stories inspired by real life, Summer Story Swap encourages Girl Scouts to read in ways that are creative, flexible, and fun.
To receive a patch, Girl Scouts must;
1. Register for Summer Story Swap here before July 15.
2. Commit to reading throughout the summer!
That’s it!
Please Note: Patches will be mailed throughout the summer using the address we have on file attached to the registration.
Girl Scouts can do activities throughout the summer using the Summer Story Swap BINGO Board! Activities include reading outside, swapping books with friends, visiting a library, reading graphic novels or manga, designing book covers, attending book clubs, and more.
To complete the challenge:
Girl Scouts who submit a photo of their completed BINGO Board will be entered into giveaway drawings throughout the summer!
Summer Story Swap Stations encourage Girl Scouts to discover new books while sharing stories with others in their communities. Girls may borrow, swap, or donate books while visiting designated Story Swap locations. Stop by at any point this summer to pick up, drop off, and swap out a book! These stations will be located at the following GSOFCT Locations;
Join us for FREE virtual Summer Story Swap Book Clubs throughout the summer! These relaxed and interactive sessions will give Girl Scouts an opportunity to share what they’re reading, discover new books, participate in themed discussions, and connect with fellow Girl Scouts from across Connecticut. Book Clubs will offered throughout the summer, and will include the following selections;
Make new Friends, Keep the Old by Amber Ren
The Amazing Daisies by
Maven Takes the Lead by Yamile Saied Méndez
Anika and the Great Dog Rescue by Sayantani DasGupta
And more! Stay tuned for additional book club opportunities - you'll find them on our calendar!
We curated this reading list to include titles that connect to Girl Scout pillars like STEM, Outdoors, Life Skills, and Entrepreneurship, feature inspiring girl leads, and are simply fun to read! These titles are only suggestions — every reader is different. We encourage families to preview books and allow Girl Scouts to choose stories that match their own interests, reading level, and comfort. Books not included on this list are absolutely welcome, too!
