The Girl Scouts of Monroe, Connecticut continue to shine as a beacon of community service, rallying neighbors together through food drives, cookie donations, and upcoming events that support their friends and neighbors.
Girl Scouts Deliver Nearly Half a Ton of Food
Earlier this month, Monroe’s Girl Scout Troop 34001 collected close to 1,000 pounds of food for local families, a remarkable effort that directly benefited the Monroe Food Pantry. The initiative made a significant impact for the organization.
“The pantry will run more smoothly with this donation.” Eddie Lui, the food pantry coordinator, told the local newspaper.
Sweet Smiles Through Cookie Donations
In another impactful moment, a Juliette Girl Scout from Monroe inspired support from a resident who purchased her ENTIRE INVENTORY when she hosted an Election Week Cookie Booth and asked her to give away the boxes for free to people coming in to vote. Any remaining boxes not given to voters were donated to support Cookies for Heros, an initiative that gifts Girl Scout cookies to men and women serving our country. The gesture sparked joy across town, with scouts and families alike sharing smiles over the unexpected treat. “I’ve seen so many smiles,” Molly told her local newspaper, reflecting the spirit that has become a hallmark of Monroe’s Girl Scout community.
Upcoming Food Drive at Edith Wheeler Memorial Library
The Monroe Service Unit is keeping the momentum going with a Food Drive hosted by Cadette Troop 34010. Scheduled for December 6th at the Edith Wheeler Memorial Library, the event invites residents to drop off nonperishable food items. All donations will go directly to the Monroe Food Pantry.
To encourage participation, any Girl Scout who contributes will receive a fun patch and be entered to win door prizes provided by the Service Unit. Organizers hope the event will build on the success of earlier drives and continue strengthening ties in the community.
A Tradition of Giving Back
These efforts reflect a broader mission of Girl Scouts across Connecticut being dedicated to service and their communities.. The Monroe Service Unit’s work is a shining example of efforts Girl Scouts are making statewide. The newly established Girl Scouts Give Back portal includes a Resource Finder tool for supporters to easily find a service project in their area, resources for people and families seeking support, and a place for troops and service units to submit their service project to be included in the Resource Finder.
The Girl Scouts of Monroe are proving that small acts of kindness—whether collecting canned goods or sharing cookies—can ripple outward to strengthen an entire community. Their work is a reminder that service has the power to inspire hope and connection.
